The Construction and Planning Administration of the interior ministry recently announced a plan to establish 6 conservation areas along Hualien's coast, stretching from the mouth of Heping River in Siulin Township to Fengbin Township. Overall covering some 125000 hectares including 22000 hectares of land. The conservation project, however, has caused uproar among community members along the east coast.
